A distinguished Academic, Veterinary Doctor, and Administrator, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu obtained his formal education and professional trainings in Nigeria and abroad. Among many qualifications, he holds the Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Master of Science in Theriogenology, Ph.D. in Veterinary Reproduction, and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
Our Celebrant’s full-time career spans about four decades to date. In 1985, he joined the Department of Veterinary Surgery & Reproduction at the University of Maiduguri as an Assistant Lecturer and progressively attained the ranks of Lecturer II, Lecturer I, Senior Lecturer, Reader, and Professor.
During his tenure in Maiduguri, he was actively involved in teaching, research, curricula development, supervision of projects and dissertations, and performing veterinary clinical duties, the last mentioned being at the unique University of Maiduguri Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Additionally, he acquired considerable experience gained in reproductive ultrasonography and radio-immunoassay of reproductive hormones.
Such is the stature of Professor Abdullahi Ribadu that he has a rare distinction of having served as Chief Executive Officer of three tertiary educational institutions in Nigeria — Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Yola (2004–2009); Pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State (2013–2018); and Incumbent Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC) — during which tenure tremendous developments have been recorded in the institutions.
Previously, he had been Visiting Professor to the NUC (and Chairman, Committee on Monitoring of Private Universities — COMPU — and Chief Examiner, Senior Staff Promotion Examinations) and on Sabbatical Leave since 2020.
In the same vein, our Celebrant has served as a Professor, Department of Theriogenology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Abuja, Abuja; also on Leave of Absence.
To his credit, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu has several published works and presentations delivered at several national and global fora.
A former Secretary-General, Association of West Africa Universities (2016–2019), his professional affiliations include: Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association; Society for the Study of Reproduction, Cambridge, UK; British Medical Ultrasound Society, London; Society for the Study of Animal Breeding, England; Japanese Society of Veterinary Science, Tokyo, Japan; Japanese Society of Animal Reproduction, Tokyo; and Liverpool Veterinary Alumni Association, Liverpool, UK.
A worthy recipient of many scholarships and fellowships, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu is a Fellow, College of Veterinary Surgeons Nigeria (FCVSN); Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM); Honorary Fellow, Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (FNIAE); Fellow, Global e-Policy and e-Government Institute, Sungkyunkwan University, Seoul, South Korea; Fellow, Institute of Government Research & Leadership Technology; and Honorary Doctor of Letters of Commonwealth University, London.
Active in community development and welfare, our Celebrant is happily married with children.
