A world-acclaimed Gynaecologist-Obstetrician [G&O], Author & Administrator, Professor Oladapo Alabi Ladipo is the first Nigerian to be elected President of the African Federation of Obstetrics & Gynaecology [AFOG]. He obtained his formal post-secondary education at Norwood Technical College, London; and Welsh National School of Medicine, Cardiff [today’s University of Wales College of Medicine, and Graduate School of Public Health, Pittsburgh Hospital, USA.

Over the years, he has earned Scholarships/Fellowships of the Federal Government of Nigeria, United States Agency for International Development, International Fertility Research Centre [today’s Family Health International 360], University of North Carolina, USA, Cornell Medical Centre, New York, The John’s Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, and the World Health Organisation, among others.

Among others, Professor Oladapo Ladipo has served as Senior House Officer (O&G), Cardiff Royal Infirmary, Wales & Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, UK; and Registrar (O&G), St. David Hospital, Cardiff.

Back home in Nigeria, he was successively Senior Registrar (O&G), Lecturer 1 (O&G), Senior Lecturer/Consultant (O&G) & Professor/Consultant (O&G) at the University College Hospital, Ibadan [UCI]. He also served as Executive Secretary/Programme Director, South-to-South Co-operation in Reproduction Health [Salvador, Brazil]; and Locum Clinical Professor/Head of Department [O&G], University of Wales College of Medicine.

He is the Founder and pioneer President of, Association for Reproductive & Family Health [ARFH], which is committed to improving the quality of life of underprivileged and vulnerable communities through granting them access to quality healthcare and harnessing their capacities for sustainable development.

His extensive professional affiliations include membership of the International Council of the John’s Hopkins Programme for International Education in Obstetrics & Gynaecology; Society for the Advancement of Contraception; British Medical Association; Nigerian Medical Association, International Federation of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists; West African College of Surgeons; Advisory Board of MacArthur Foundation, USA; Boards of Pathfinder International, Boston, USA & Pathfinder Fund International, UK; Executive Committee of Cardiff Medical Society, UK; National Health Research Committee, Nigeria; and Trustee, Society of Obstetrics & Gynaecology of Nigeria.

The Grand Patron of the Federation of African Medical Students’ Association since 1990, and a well-read Author, Professor Oladapo Ladipo is a Fellow — Royal College of Gynaecologists, West African College of Surgeons, National Post-Graduate Medical College of Nigeria, International College of Surgeons, and Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria.

An Officer of the Order of the Niger [OON] & University of Ibadan Life-Time Achievement Award Winner; he has also been honoured by the African Federation of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Bill & Melinda Gates Institute, World Health Organisation, Brazilian Northeast Obstetrics & Gynaecology Society, and Society of Gynaecologists & Obstetricians of Nigeria.
