An economist, accomplished Chartered Accountant, Industrialist & Public Administrator, Chief Dr. Onikepo Akande has served Nigeria in many capacities. She was the first Nigerian woman to serve as Minister of Industry, for two terms in December 1997 and August 1998. She was also the second female President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Her full-time working career has taken her through a number of blue-chip private and public sector establishments. Among these are: Chairman, Business Group Nigeria in the New Partnership for African Development, Honorary Life Vice-President, Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines & Agriculture; President, Pan-Africa Organization for Women Recognition; Director, Union Bank of Nigeria PLC; and former Chairman of Oyo State Education Trust Fund.

She was a Delegate to the 2014 National Conference of Nigeria, Foundation Member of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group; Council of Vision 2010 and Vision 2020 of Nigeria and the African Business Round-Table. Dr. Nike Akande was the Pioneer Female President of Harvard Business School Association of Nigeria and for many years an International Consultant to the UN Development Programme, UN Industrial Development Organization and UN Development Fund for Women.

In recognition of her varied contributions to commerce, industry and society, Chief Dr Nike Akande has received several awards. She is an Officer of the Order of the Niger [OON]; and Commander of the Order of the Niger [CON]. She is a recipient of the Lagos State Government Tax Compliance Award and Africa Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Award.

She is happily married with children to Chief Adebayo Akande, MFR.
